The Petite France district in Strasbourg is a charming, historic neighborhood known for its cobblestone streets, half-timbered buildings, and canals. Originally home to tanners, millers, and fishermen, this picturesque area is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most photographed spots in the city. Here we find a wonderful display of traditional Alsatian architecture, which we also find in Colmar and other villages in the region. With steeped roofs, exposed wooden beams, and intricate designs and pastel colors, many buildings are several centuries old, and some with origins back to the Middle Ages.
The Barrage Vauban bridge is a 17th-century defensive structure, built to protect the city. Although there is nothing inside, it has stairs to a rooftop terrace offering fabulous panoramic views.

Place Kléber is Strasbourg’s main square featuring a large central monument, surrounded by shops, cafes, and restaurants, making it a popular gathering place. Here we find another Christmas market, held since 2000. It has one of Europe’s largest Christmas trees, standing around 30 meters tall, as a centerpiece drawing crowds to this festive location. Like all the markets in in Strasbourg, we find a variety of holiday goods, including crafts, ornaments, and regional delicacies.
Christmas market in front of the Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the most atmospheric locations in Strasbourg. The cathedral itself is stunning, one of the tallest in Europe with intricate gothic architecture. Set against the backdrop of the Notre-Dame, it is a favorite spot for both locals and visitors to enjoy the historic charm and warmth of Strasbourg’s Christmas traditions.
