Predjama Medieval Cave Castle
Predjama Castle holds the Guness World Record for being the Largest Cave Castle in the world. Perched half-way up a 123-meter-high cliff, it is built onto the mouth of a cave, with many rooms and passageways having the cliff rock-face as an inside wall.
Truly a medieval structure, it was built for safety and defence against attack. Its first building dates to the 12th-century, with subsequent expansions over the next four centuries, evolving to its present state, largely completed around 1570.
The castle is very much known for a legendary knight in the 15th century named Erasmus of Lueg, who withstood a siege against the castle for over a year with the use of an unknown secret cave exit.
Hear the story and see this amazing structure in my Predjama Castle video, appearing in a new Croatia-Slovenia web page, along with my Postojna Caves video. Both are fabulous sights to see in Slovenia.
