Waterfall Paradise: Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

Words cannot describe the beauty of Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia, as visitors walk along countless cascades and waterfalls flowing from one lake to another. Plitvice was Croatia’s first National Park established in 1949, and became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979.

Enjoy my capture of Plitvice Lakes on video, appearing on Haswell Travelled YouTube channel, and listed in my Croatia-Slovenia web page. Included is a walk along the most popular route, along with an introductory map.

The trails are in two sections called Lower and Upper Lakes featuring a boat ride in between. We start with the Lower Lakes by Entrance 1, which has a couple of excellent vantage points from above the valley. A switch-back trail leads down to the park’s largest waterfall with boardwalks past numerous cascades along the lake. A pleasant boat ride takes visitors to the Upper Lakes with more boardwalks along a seeming endless number of cascades and waterfalls.

Plitvice Lakes National Park may be the best waterfall park in the world.
